The European Union is committed to achieving climate neutrality by 2050, a central objective of the European Green Pact. Several related pieces of legislation are currently being adopted to give concrete form to this commitment.
One of these legislative texts, the Ecodesign for Sustainable Product Regulation (ESPR), requires the creation of a Digital Product Passport (DPP) based on open standards. This digital product passport will be a formidable tool for ensuring digital continuity, triggering circularity loops to reduce our production of waste, extending the life of products, promoting their reparability, encouraging reconditioning, and much more.
Against this backdrop, GS1 France, as an international standards organisation, is leading a community of interest to prepare for this requirement, which will have a positive impact on the industries concerned by moving them towards a circular economy.
