Wheaton, a national leading company in the glass packaging industry, had its trajectory and dedication to sustainability recognized by EcoVadis, one of the world’s leading corporate sustainability assessments. The company received the Silver Medal, awarded to only 15% of the companies assessed by the institution.
Throughout its history, Wheaton has aimed to build a more aware and sustainable industry by adopting a wide range of environmental, social, and good governance practices in its processes.
“The EcoVadis Silver Medal is a recognition of the evolution of our practices; it not only consolidates the work done so far but also encourages us to keep looking for new ways to improve our socio-environmental processes in the future,” says Ricardo Lopes, Commercial and Marketing Director at Wheaton.
Wheaton’s sustainable mission
In order to achieve sustainability in its packaging and processes, Wheaton has a multidisciplinary group that is responsible for ESG issues, evaluating actions to ensure business sustainability in the long term.
“Our strategic pillars include Energy Management, Natural Resources and Waste, where we are constantly seeking to improve our energy efficiency, optimize the use of natural resources, and reduce waste generation at all stages of our value chain,” says Ricardo.
The executive explains that part of the decision-maker’s job today is to rethink production processes to improve energy efficiency and consume increasingly less natural resources and reduce waste.
Since 2023, 100% of the electrical energy used in the industrial park comes from certified renewable water sources, allowing the company to fully neutralize its scope 2 gas emissions, reinforcing its commitment to environmental sustainability.
