Holmen’s mill in Iggesund awarded top sustainability rating again.

By continuously improving its systemic approach to all aspects of sustainability, Holmen’s mill in Iggesund, Sweden, has been awarded the EcoVadis Platinum rating for the fourth year in a row.

Holmen’s Iggesund mill, renowned for producing Invercote® paperboard, stands as one of the world’s most advanced and sustainable pulp and paperboard mills, consistently achieving EcoVadis’s top sustainability rating. Since joining the global sustainability assessment platform EcoVadis, Iggesund has repeatedly earned the prestigious platinum rating, awarded only to the top 1% of over 130,000 companies assessed in areas like environment, ethics, procurement, and labor rights.

According to Fredrik Puranen, Holmen Board and Paper’s Sustainability Manager, EcoVadis provides an independent verification of Holmen’s sustainability efforts, enhancing transparency with customers and stakeholders. “EcoVadis shows if we’re on the right track,” he explains, noting how Holmen’s ongoing platinum rating supports customers’ confidence that they are choosing an ethically and sustainably managed supplier. With rising awareness of sustainability, more clients seek to partner with suppliers holding strong sustainability credentials, a factor increasingly valued by end consumers.

However, maintaining this top rating is becoming more challenging as EcoVadis tightens its standards each year. “The bar for platinum is set relative to other companies, which are also improving,” says Puranen. “This trend drives overall improvement in corporate sustainability, pushing us to refine our systems continuously.” Holmen’s approach includes robust policies and measurable goals across EcoVadis’s pillars, enabling ongoing progress through precise KPIs. EcoVadis’s feedback on improvement areas also supports this drive for excellence.

As sustainability standards evolve, Holmen embraces the challenge. “Higher scores are required each year,” Puranen adds, “and that motivates us to keep improving.”
