Butterfly Cannon’s new design for Oriflame Cosmetics
Signature is the latest fragrance by Oriflame Cosmetics. Created by their master perfumer working with his son, this highly personal project used traditional ingredients and extraction techniques with a fresh approach to create a duo of timeless ‘signature’ fragrances for men and women that are all about connecting with those close to you. Oriflame asked Butterfly Cannon to create a brand around this story that put their values at the heart of the design.
Butterfly Cannon identified that central to the brand was the idea of longevity and generations working together for the future. The brand’s mark encapsulates the duality of this intergenerational tale through the interconnection of traditional serif and contemporary sans serif typefaces. For the structure, they designed a timeless, faceted glass bottle consciously encased within a sleek, contemporary wooden frame, designed to be removed and reused as a frame for photos of family and friends.
As a final detail linking back to the idea of a connection with those closest to you, the his and her’s bottles and outer-packs were designed with complementary embossed and debossed panels to allow them to nestle into each other.
“To match the fragrance house to the rest of the Oriflame group’s sustainability values and our own Conscious DesignTM process, the wooden frame was responsibly sourced and designed for friction fit without glue or magnets. This mono-material construction ensured easy separation from the bottle for recycling and reuse. Whilst different sizes, the “his and her’s” bottles were designed to fit within a common frame and pack size, allowing for resource savings in tooling and production”.
Signature – make your mark, but not on the planet.
“Butterfly Cannon’s brand and packaging designs for our Signature fragrance release are both timeless and contemporary. Capturing the duality of this intergenerational project, whilst reflecting Oriflame’s sustainable values with a responsibly sourced wooden frame, designed to be removed and have a second use as a photo frame.”
