Ushuaia Brume Bio 2.0

The purpose of this launch was to develop the first plastic aerosol with compressed air for deodorant.
The objective was to improve the environmental impact in 2 ways.
First, by replacing the liquefied gas by compressed air and thus limit greenhouse gases emissions. The main constraint with this requirement was to ensure a good performance during the whole product life, as pressure inside the aerosol decreases quickly with compressed air after the first actuation and also to have the best tightness we could have to limit this phenomenon.
Second, by using the compressed technology so the claim could be 75 ml = 150 ml.

Concept of the Year

FINALIST

Puro

The primary goal of PURO was to develop an applicator which keeps the foamy product clean in daily use. The effect of a dirty applicator and accumulating foam under the overcap is a result of the delayed foaming. The aerosol product is dispensed under pressure, but as soon as the aerosol valve is released some of the product remains unused in the applicator. It begins to foam after some time, and for post-foaming gels when it reaches the right temperature. Therefore, often even after washing the applicator, the residual foam dispenses from the applicator after time.

FINALIST

Lightest Impact Extruded Aerosol Can on the market in Europe

The objective of this innovation is to create a new alloy that would enable creation of as light impact extruded can as possible in order to boost sustainability of our packaging by decreasing carbon footprint and generate cost savings, while overcoming potential material constrains and remain compliant with regulation (pressure resistance, ADD compliance EU 75-324, fit for supply chain needs).

FINALIST

Cardboard cap for aerosols

After a lot of trial and error, Wimbée managed to produce a cap that was resistant to vertical and lateral pressure, enough to be put on aerosols and then stocked on top of one another for transport.

This cap allows our client to divide their carbon footprint by 4 compared to a plastic cap and at the same time, communicate about it. It keeps its first and main use: to be able to protect the aerosol during transport, and adds a new and eco-responsible look to the product. It is made from FSC cardboard and paper.

FINALIST

adidas protector by DFNS (powered by alu-air©)

Plastic waste and carbon emissions are huge barriers to reaching global sustainable development goals. By developing the alu-air© technology, we aimed to tackle both. The objective was to create a 100% recyclable package with minimal carbon emissions during use, in a unique design that captures the buyer’s interest.
Our main goal was to replace gas propellants with air, while maintaining the same spraying characteristics. However, our research revealed that many formulations require adjustments to be dispensed by air, making this a challenging task.

FINALIST

Linseed Oil Omega 3 6 9 Spray

Linseed oil has a shorter shelf-life than other oils and is best stored in cool and dark places. It also reacts to light, so you can mostly find the product in a small dark glass bottle. As it is an oil, a controlled input is sufficient to have the best benefits.
Proposing to offer linseed oil in a spray, in a sealed, not see-through container, was the first step to ensure the right preservation for this expensive oil. The next step we took was to provide for a controlled dosage. Each single spray allows the control of calories and the reproducibility of certain recipes.

JustBe - introducing the new internal PPG Hoba coating PRO 2848

PPG and TUBEX jointly developed an interior lacquer that is BPA-Ni and contains < 0.1 formaldehyde. This lacquer is ahead of its time. An interior coating that is BPA-Ni and has a low (calculated) formaldehyde value has never been seen before and is already compliant with future EU directives. This is particularly important for the French and Canadian markets since BPA-containing coatings are banned there. The coating is easy to process and, more importantly, is neutral in taste and appearance, and does not react with the sulphites. While the specification, such as temperature, remains unchanged and is easy to process, many development tests were necessary. This included closely monitoring the production process to ensure an even and perfect application of the coating.
