Champagne Telmont and Verallia partner for 193,000 shades of green

For the production of its Champagne bottles, Champagne Telmont (Rémy Cointreau) is working with glassmaker Verallia to use the glass that is produced when a glass tint is changed in a furnace. Some 193,000 bottles made from this transition glass are set to be launched every year in the project’s initial phase.

When glassmakers change the tint of glass in a furnace, a portion of the glass produced during the changeover does not comply with chromatic standards. As part of its drive to push the limits of sustainable packaging, Champagne Telmont (Rémy Cointreau) is to leverage this glass in a project dubbed “193,000 shades of green”. Why this figure exactly? Because it is the number of bottles required for a glassmaker to transition from one color to another, Champagne Telmont tells Formes de Luxe. As a first step, the initiative will see the brand commercialize 193,000 bottles per year with glass colors ranging from green to cinnamon.

“Each of our bottles, reflecting a nuance of our terroir through its hue, now tells a story – the story of our innovative ecological transition,” Ludovic du Plessis, CEO of Champagne Telmont, said in a statement.
