Fibre-based packaging for Coca-Cola, Fanta and Sprite

Coca-Cola HBC is trialling a cardboard and paper solution to replace the plastic shrink film used in the 1.5-litre packs of Coca-Cola, Fanta and Sprite sold in Austria.

Designed to withstand the weight of six 1.5-litre bottles, equivalent to around 9kg, this solution aims to gradually eliminate the use of plastic film in large packs of heavy bottles. Its introduction in Austria is expected to significantly reduce plastic consumption and the energy costs associated with production. The initiative aims to reduce the amount of plastic used by 200 tonnes a year.

“This is the result of our entrepreneurial spirit, our absolute belief in working with trusted partners and our goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2040,” says Marcel Martin, Director of Corporate Affairs and Sustainability at Coca-Cola HBC.
