The Wine Society makes plastic bottle range permanent
Following trials of alternative packaging, The Wine Society, a not-for-profit wine merchant, has listed four wines bottled in recycled polyethylene terephthalate (rPET).
Last year, The Wine Society announced it was testing four wines in rPET bottles, including Gruner Veltliner 2022 and White Burgundy 2022. The initiative aims to reduce the carbon footprint, with glass bottles accounting for 31% of the society’s total emissions. Flat bottles made from recycled plastic offer a greener alternative.
“To achieve our ambitious reduction targets, we need to significantly reduce our emissions attributable to packaging. One way to do this is putting more of our wines into lower-carbon packaging formats,” commented Dom de Ville, director of sustainability and social impact.
