Only 11% of Brits know what Pet Nat is

The first wine report from M&S revealed that many in Britain confuse Pet Nat with a winemaking equipment used for sorting grapes.

A study shows that 29% of Britons avoid cloudy wines, reflecting some reservations towards unconventional sparkling wines. Pétillant Naturel, or Pet Nat, is an unfiltered sparkling wine made through continuous fermentation in the bottle. Once a niche style known as “hipster bubbles,” it is beginning to gain recognition.

In May 2024, Marks & Spencer became the first British supermarket to sell Pet Nat, signalling a potential shift in the acceptance of less conventional sparkling wines. This move suggests a growing popularity of this wine style among British consumers.
