BLOG | Eurostampa tells seven connecting stories with premium labels in the latest Envelope Project

One of the highlights of Paris Packaging Week every year is seeing the young talents of the next generation at work. This is exemplified by Eurostampa’s Envelope Project, which returns in 2024’s event.

A triumph of cross-industry collaboration, the Envelope Project is a yearly innovation showcase organised by Eurostampa, a leader in high quality labels for wines and spirits, chocolate, food, and cosmetics. It enlists the design talents of two schools – the University of Gastronomic Sciences of Pollenzo and the University of Cincinnati’s DAAP Program – to develop and execute a brief for a series of labels based on a theme. This year’s theme is ‘7 connecting stories’ and sees the students working with Eurostampa’s world-renowned designers to develop seven labels for a selection of well-known partner brands. A collaborative project The students work in two groups, each one managing a different area of the process. The Pollenzo group plays the role of brand owner, working to develop a creative brief that delivers on the project’s theme.  This year, the designs have to embody the values of the seven connecting stories. From there, Eurostampa designers develop and finish the artwork using their leading suite of creative techniques and technical solutions. The Cincinnati cohort acts as a graphics agency that must capture images of the labels in a way that expresses the unique personality of each brand, while also delivering on the overarching theme of connecting stories. The aim of the project is to experiment with a range of new and existing technologies, materials, and printing solutions while encouraging collaboration among the students working at different stages of the process. The seven projects will be proudly displayed at Eurostampa’s booth at Paris Packaging Week, while two students (one from each group) will be awarded a scholarship. However, it is the platform, exposure, and connections the students will make that will prove most valuable on their journey towards a brighter future for packaging and labelling. The magnificent seven Aperol The iconic aperitif brand was given a vivid design that represents Padua, the Italian city where it originated. The design was brought to life with rSABLE Blanc material, micro-embossed gold foil and tasteful use of prismatic embossing and transparent foil to pick out the famous brand logo.
Belle Glos Copper Cane The champagne colour of the bottle was paired with delicate liquid foil and gold foil, picking out the intricate typography against a rustic off-white label, made with Classic Linen Solar White WS material.
Ron Matusalem Printed on white cane fibre paper, this rum label combined the traditional with the modern. A pebble varnish was used alongside embossing techniques to create a rustic feel, while an NFC tag on the underside of the neck label enables exciting digital connectivity features.
Estathé Deteinato This lively label was made using a polyolefin material, boasting a variable street art style that meant each pack used slightly different imagery. The pack also offered interactive elements to appeal to a younger audience.
Moët & Chandon The iconic champagne brand’s personality was brought to life using deep lens foil, gold foiling, and a tactile varnish on Noble Blanc material. The heritage of the brand was embodied by the addition of an embroidered design stitched onto the label.
Diptyque candle This hemp label was printed with thermochromic ink and finished with a tactile varnish, giving each Zodiac-themed label a hand-drawn appearance. When the candle is lit, the heat-sensitive ink changes colour.
