Royal Salute switches from porcelain to glass bottles

The porcelain flagon that has been used by the blended whisky company since its founding in 1953 will be replaced with a recyclable glass container.

The glass bottles will reduce the carbon footprint of the brand’s principal packaging by 70% while closely resembling the porcelain flagons they replace. The 21 year old Signature Blend, Royal Salute’s biggest-selling whisky, will be the first to adopt the new glass bottle, from June 2022, before it is rolled out across the rest of the brand’s range.

This brand is part of the Chivas Brothers portfolio – the Scotch whisky business of Pernod Ricard. It has said that in line with Pernod Ricard’s sustainability roadmap, all Royal Salute packaging will be 100% recyclable, reusable or compostable by 2025.

Jean-Etienne Gourgues, chairman and CEO of Chivas Brothers, said: “Sustainability isn’t a ‘nice to have’, it’s a high priority, and I’m proud to see Royal Salute’s iconic bottle transition from ceramic to glass – this represents a key milestone in Chivas Brothers’ journey towards 100 per cent recyclable packaging.”
