Design Case Study | Breath, a creative reflection of Zephyr
Breath is a concept designed by Studio Zephyr intended to demonstrate the designers know-how and creativity. Find out more about this pack in our exclusive design case study below.
Tell us a bit about the brand – its heritage, its story, and its markets – and the brief for this project. How does the design express the brand’s values?
The first intention of the creation of Breath was to create a precious and rare object, thought and conceived as a work of art. Breath is intended to present a renewal of the studio in form and aspiration. Aimed at the luxury spirits market, it plays with codes to create a strong and original universe.
“It is an opportunity for us to create freely around a storytelling that we thought up beforehand. Zephyr being the god of wind, the story of this brand is built around a mythological tale” explain the designers.
What is unusual or innovative about this pack?
The box was created to complement the bottle. In keeping with the mythological story, it depicts an architectural column that is a direct reminder of the various temples built for the gods during the great Greek period.
Another unique feature about the pack is its references. The box includes direct references to the city of Marseille, which is the designer’s heartland. This is a way of highlighting the Phocaean city, but is also a nod to the fact that Marseille, known as “Massalia”, is cited in Greek mythology.
What challenges did you need to overcome when manufacturing this pack?
The main challenge of this project was to create a round bottle by working on a unique glass design.
The round shape was important to the designers because it is not often used in the spirits industry as it is complex to design. The round shape also aims to translate the dynamics of the breath, supported by pictographic motifs of wind represented in relief on the bottle, which at the same time facilitate its handling.
